Concentration
Concentration: Delicate objects or emotions enclosed by hard protective structures.
First piece: Composed of three glass house like structures with a flower in each of them. The houses went from smallest to largest and within the small house, a flower was closed, and the flower bloomed inside the houses as they grew bigger. This piece represents the stages of growth and protecting the growth of a child. There’s use of repetition in which the house and the flower inside the house repeat and grow as they progress.
Second piece: Glass box with silhouette dancers on each side that protect the passion of dancing or passion in general. The different poses of the dancers created variety within the same topic. Also, behind the silhouettes of the dancers are photos of roses that I took which make the piece more vibrant.
Third piece: Two glass triangular pyramids, one with a butterfly and one with a flower inside which show relationship. The flower and butterfly can live on their own, but they work better together. Also, the two triangles unify together to form something bigger, a pyramid.
Fourth piece: Glass rectangle with a mold of my hand inside and old buildings on the outside. This piece shows how these buildings are all so old and human architecture and history has been preserved within these buildings in real life.
Fifth Piece: A tall glass structure with words and thoughts trickling downward like a waterfall. This represents words and thought and protecting those precious things within the mind.
Sixth Piece: The glass structure is protecting a doll, which represents a little girl. The little girl is innocent and needs to be protected from the harsh world.
Seventh Piece: This piece has a balance on two different sides of the structure. It represents equality and balance between everybody.
Eighth Piece: This piece is glass with a sound wave house made of paper inside. This last piece represents music which incorporates all the previous delicate objects or emotions into one. Music is a connector so it makes sense for it to be the last piece.
I’d say my most successful piece would be the one demonstrating relationship. My favorite part is that the two pieces can stand alone but then they come together they create something even more beautiful. I had experimented a lot on this one to see how all the pieces would fit together. I thought about this piece on my own and designed the whole thing by myself, where the inspiration came from my best friend and I. The piece is unified by having clear glass all on the outside but a piece of green glass in the middle where the two triangles connect and having a butterfly and flower from nature. My risk taking on this was more prominent because I knew what my concentration was and I wanted to try a different glass structure rather than a square or rectangle derived one. I feel like my voice was strongly shown through this piece.
My weakest piece would be the first piece I made. I feel like this piece could be improved because it doesn't have solder on the inside edges, the hinges are a little crooked, also, the solder on the outside edges is a little messy. I would try and straighten this piece out and clean it up a bit. I had some help thinking about what to do with this piece too; it was not just met thinking about the concept of it. I think it does catch the viewer’s eye because of the house structures, but it could be improved. I’d say this piece took me the longest and I wasn't the biggest on risk taking because I was still trying to formulate my concentration.
